Coming up with a business name can be truly daunting. Where do you even start?! You want it to be the perfect name that reflects you and how awesome your business is! A name that will capture clients and stay memorable.

“So how the heck am I supposed to do that?!”

Brainstorming name ideas doesn’t have to be as difficult as picking out a babies name or naming a star. Sometimes names come from a grammatical or spelling error. Take some of the businesses we go to every day! Most of the major corporations have short and to the point names. Macy’s, for instance, is named after R.H. Macy. You don’t know until you try! So let’s have fun!

Here are some ideas for forming an awesome business name:

*Simply use your name:

What’s in a name? Well, yours! Your name is as unique as you are, so why not use it to brand your business. You can use your full name, first name, last name, or any combination.

*Add your business industry to your name:

One way to be found in search engines is to add your industry to your name. So, for example, Kalanit Lagbas Photography. Name your business and be found by prospects!

*Make an acronym:

Hate your name? Take it and turn it into an acronym! So if my business name is Kalanit Lagbas Photography, I could call it KLP Photography! Many famous companies use acronyms, like CVS (Customer Value Stores) or BMW. Can you name a few?

*Ask a toddler:

Kids say the darndest things…so why not let them name your business? Their minds are open and free of expectation. Can’t think of any company that let their kid name the business? One company that did this was Dubsado! See their story here. They’re pretty darn successful too!

*Spelling mistake:

Believe it or not, this is how we got our name, VaRue. Initially we were going with a family name, Va-LaRue, but of course, mid making our logo we misspelled it! VaRue stuck with us and we knew it was perfect. See what you can come up with by making a mistake on PURPOSE.

*Foreign words:

Know another language? Take advantage of it and combine the language with English. VaRue is one of them. Rue means road in French! The combinations are endless, write down some of your favorite words in more than one language and have fun!
